Atlanta Hawks Preview
The Hawks are currently sitting in the middle of the road in terms of overall pace, but I expect them to actively try to speed up the Rocketsin this matchup.
The Hawks know that if they get dragged into a slow, grinding half-court game, Houston will obviously benefit.
Offensively, Atlanta is doing an excellent job of getting massive volume up, and they are executing at a high level. They are currently shooting 48% from the field, which ranks in the NBA's top 10.
Atlanta is going to push the tempo and try to turn this into a track meet.
Houston Rockets Preview
I actually really like Houston's defense right now, and they get the benefit of playing at home.
The Rockets are not playing at a particularly fast pace, but they are playing incredibly well early on.
It's been a refreshing start for them, especially since there were plenty of lingering chemistry questions around this roster toward the end of last season that may or may not resurface.
The offense is clicking, the shooting has been efficient, and they are taking care of business on their home floor.
Hawks vs Rockets Pick, Analysis
I don't typically do a ton of totals, but I like the setup here.
With the frantic pace Atlanta is going to try to dictate to prevent Houston from setting up their half-court defense, I just don't see how this game ends up being very low-scoring unless we just witness some inexplicably poor shooting from both sides.
Houston is shooting efficiently, and Atlanta is generating a ton of offensive volume while shooting near 50% from the field.
We should get a lot of points in this matchup. I'll take Over 229.5 points.
