Pistons vs Bulls NBA Preview

At the trade deadline, the Pistons and Bulls were involved in a three-team trade with Minnesota that sent Jaden Ivey to the Bulls and Kevin Huerter and a first-round pick swap to the Pistons.

The Pistons made Ivey the fifth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, but he had an uneven tenure in Detroit with inconsistent playing time and multiple knee and leg injuries.

Ivey was feeling particularly down after the Bulls' loss to the Raptors on Thursday.

Ivey did not play in Thursday's game and he is questionable tonight.

However, the Bulls acquired Collin Sexton, Anfernee Simons, and Tre Jones in addition to already having Josh Giddey and Tre Jones, so minutes could be hard to come by for him whether he is healthy or not.

Huerter has yet to crack Detroit's rotation as well, so it is not out of the question that the pick swap in a loaded draft turns out to be the most significant asset to come out of this trade.

However, the Pistons continue to march on as they now own the best record in the NBA (by percentage points over Oklahoma City).

On Thursday night, they completed the season sweep of the Knicks with a 126-111 victory. Cade Cunningham was sensational with 42 points, eight rebounds, and 13 assists.

Over his past six games, Cunningham is averaging 28.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and nine assists on 48/40/81 shooting splits.

After beginning the year with odds around +8000 to win league MVP, Cunningham is firmly in the discussion with the third-shortest odds (+500-600) behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic.

He will get one of his centers back tonight as Jalen Duren will return from a two-game suspension.

The first-time All-Star is averaging 17.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game this season. He has also enjoyed playing the Bulls as he is averaging 16 points and 12.8 rebounds in his last eight games against them.

The Pistons have won five of those games, though they likely have not forgotten about the season-opening loss in Chicago.

Pistons vs Bulls Predictions, Betting Analysis

Bulls Team Total Under 110.5 Points

Tonight's total is over 230 points and these teams are 5-5 to the over in the last 10 meetings.

However, tonight I have questions about the Bulls holding up their end of the bargain.

Since November 24, the Pistons have the league's best defense, over a point better than Oklahoma City. They have held three of their last four opponents under 110 points.

Meanwhile, the Bulls have a lot of moving parts following the trade deadline and do not look very cohesive right now. They have scored 115, 105, and 101 points in their last three games.

The Pistons have also held them to 110 or points or fewer in three of the last five meetings, including 92 and 93 points in two of them — and they may keep them under 100 points once again.

Josh Giddey Under 13.5 Points

In addition to the trades, Giddey has been in and out of the lineup as their best playmaker.

Since Christmas, he has played just eight games and played over 30 minutes just once. He has scored 13 points or fewer in six of those games.

Duncan Robinson Over 2.5 Made Three Pointers

Duncan Robinson went into the All-Star break on a hot streak with 15 points in five of seven games.

While he scored just nine against the Knicks, all of his points came on 3s, which is not unusual for him.

Robinson has made three triples or more in five of his last eight games.

He has made 11 3s in his last two games against the Bulls and they are 22nd in 3s allowed and 29th in 3-point percentage defense.

Cade Cunningham 30+ Points & Assists

Cunningham dazzled on Thursday night, but he usually flirts with at least 20 points and 10 assists.

He has recorded 30 PA in nine of his last 10 games and six of his last eight against the Bulls.

Jalen Duren 25+ Points & Rebounds

Averaging over 28 PR in the last eight meetings, Duren has recorded 25 PR or more in five of those games.

He may feast tonight with the Bulls lack of size following the trade deadline.
