Los Angeles Lakers Betting Preview

Luka Doncic is a very petty basketball player, and that is exactly the type of motivation you want to back in a tournament setting. He's undoubtedly been hearing all the soundbites about Golden State's rookie big man, Yaxel Lendeborg.

Doncic literally took the Lakers' last game off, and it genuinely feels like he spent that entire time sitting around watching film and plotting Yaxel's demise.

In their previous matchup, Doncic didn't perform particularly well in one-on-one isolations against Lendeborg—the only shot he actually made was a half-court heave, which was a complete fluke. That is going to change dramatically tonight.

Because this is an NBA Cup tournament game, the Lakers are going to unleash Doncic. They will let him dictate the tempo and run an even higher percentage of the offensive usage directly through his hands.

Golden State Warriors Betting Preview

The Warriors are walking into a combustible situation defensively.

While Yaxel Lendeborg possesses a solid motor, his weak-side defense is exploitable, and his on-ball defense is merely okay. Put an "okay" on-ball defender on an island against a motivated Luka Doncic who has had a week to study the tape, and he's going to cook him.

I expect Doncic to go at him non-stop from the opening tip. It wouldn't shock me in the slightest if Yaxel fouls out in the first quarter, given the constant pressure he will face.

This game is going to feature next-level trash talk, and we will almost certainly see at least one technical foul called, if not a couple.

Lakers vs Warriors Pick, Betting Analysis

Doncic didn't clear this line against the Warriors in the season opener, but that was because it was a blowout victory for the Lakers and his minutes were reduced—and he still managed to score efficiently in the minutes he did play.

Now, with the stakes raised for the NBA Cup and a narrative edge pushing him to hunt his own shot more, Doncic is poised to go crazy.

The raw math supports the narrative. This will be must-watch television. I'm grabbing Doncic to go over 33.5 points, and frankly, it feels obligatory in this specific matchup.

Pick: Luka Doncic Over 33.5 Points (-128, FanDuel)
