Eastern Conference to Win

By Maltman

The NBA All-Star game is crazy, with players taking a ton of 3-pointers, driving for uncontested dunks, and just generally scoring a ton of points.

The talent on each side matters some, but almost more important is who shoots better. The West has more overall talent on its roster, but two of its best players, Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic, have shown a consistent tendency for NOT caring about the All-Star Game, and giving minimal effort.

The East has Giannis, who plays hard when healthy, as well as Dame, Maxey, Haliburton and Tatum to bomb away threes and make them at a high clip. I don't think the West should be favored at all, and really appreciate getting plus money in this event.

I've already bet the East to win at +130 before the line came down a bit — the current best odds are at Caesars, it looks like — and would bet that all the way down to -110.

Pick: Eastern Conference Moneyline

Luka Doncic

Under 12.5 Points

By Joe Dellera

Luka plays in his fifth All-Star Game, and he simply has not tried very hard in any of the prior ones despite decent minutes. He has averaged 7 points, 5 assists, and 1.5 assists per game. He does not make much of an effort to score and he does not see the free throw line.

While Luka gets decent minutes, he does not try to score or seem to care much about this game. With point totals of 8, 8, 8, and 4 in the four prior games, I’ll take him to go under 12.5 Points.

Pick: Luka Doncic Under 12.5 Points (-135, DraftKings)

Nikola Jokic

Under 8.5 Points

By Joe Dellera

Jokic will play in his sixth All-Star Game and he, much like Luka, does not take the soft defense as an opportunity to score. In the five games he has played, he’s averaged 6.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. He has seen 13, 12, 19, 21, and 20 minutes and he has never taken more than five FGAs in an All-Star game. The one season he exceeded this 8.5 line was where he had 10 points but was 2-for-3 from the 3-point line.

Look for Jokic to set his teammates up instead of getting his own shot. I like Jokic to go under 8.5 points.

Pick: Nikola Jokic Under 8.5 Points (-125, DraftKings)

Devin Booker

Over 18.5 Points

By Maltman

The over/under line for this game is set at 357.5, which means we can expect the West to score around 178 points.

Where are those points coming from? Well, LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard might sit out the second half. Anthony Edwards is shooting with his left hand. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is looking to facilitate. Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic don’t care about the game.

I think Devin Booker is the most obvious candidate to score in bunches, he should come out hot. I'll put a small sprinkle here with .25u on over 18.5 points at -115.

Pick: Devin Booker Over 18.5 Points (-115)

Donovan Mitchell

Over 18.5 Points

By Andrew O'Connor-Watts

Donovan Mitchell just competed in the 3-point contest and had the second-lowest score of the competition.

But Mitchell is a competitive man. I don't think he liked getting a low score even in a competition as seemingly inconsequential as the 3-Point Contest.

In last year's All-Star Game, he dropped 40 points on 25 field-goal attempts. Even if he just takes 18 field goal attempts tonight, he's well within range of hitting 19 points, and we know the All-Star game doesn't come with a lot of defense.

Even if you're worried about Mitchell being one of the lesser features of the game, we can still get home with this bet. The highest point-scorer last All-Star Game was Jayson Tatum with 55.

Pick: Donovan Mitchell Over 18.5 Points

Giannis Antetokounmpo

First Team FG (+170)

By Maltman

The NBA All-Star Game has been categorized by a few things the past few years: It’s high scoring, a lot of 3s are taken and Giannis is going to dunk the ball first.

Last year, he entered the game hurt. His team won the tip, drove down the court and dunked, then committed a take foul to get out of the game. 20 seconds, 1 dunk, 2 points.

In four of the last five seasons, Giannis has hit the first team field goal on a dunk. You can bet first field goal at +450 instead on BetRivers or +440 on FanDuel, but that’s a bet on who wins the tip. This is pretty straightforward: Will Giannis do the same thing he has done in four of the last five years?

I’m guessing the answer is yes.

I'll put .25u on Giannis to score the first team field goal at +170 at FanDuel, which I'd bet down to +150. After that, I'd simply take the first game field goal.

Pick: Giannis Antetokounmpo First Team FG (+170 · Play to +150)
