Congratulations to anyone who had UMass and Charlotte meeting in the final of the Myrtle Beach Invitational. Can I get your lottery number if you did?

Both teams pulled off upsets in the opening round before coming out on top as narrow favorites in the semifinals.

The Minutemen, however, would not be outdone, as they earned a place in the championship in amazing fashion.

Charlotte, meanwhile, has yet to lose a game this season, earning wins against tough opponents in Boise State and Tulsa.

However, none of the 49ers' wins are as impressive as what UMass did against Colorado. The Minutemen downed a Buffaloes team that notched wins against Tennessee and Texas A&M.

Can Charlotte stay undefeated and bring home more than just a t-shirt from the beach?

Massachusetts Minutemen

Sunday will be the first time since 2013 that the Minutemen have played in an in-season tournament title.

Quite a few players have stepped up at different times for UMass, but against Murray State, it was Noah Fernandes, who's buzzer beater won the game for the Minutemen.

He didn't do it all on his own, though. Matt Cross posted his first double-double as a member of UMass, and the second of his college career. Also, T.J. Weeks Jr. was the third Minuteman to score in double-digits against the Racers.

As they've done consistently so far this season, UMass dominated the second half. The Minutemen have outscored opponents by 26 in the second half through four games. They've outscored their opponents by an average of eight points over the final 20 minutes of each game.

Should Charlotte's impressive offense jump out to a lead in the first half, don't expect this game to be anywhere close to over.

Charlotte 49ers

The Charlotte offense is nothing short of amazing. During its four-game winning stretch to start the season, Charlotte has posted a true shooting percentage of 58.4%, while hitting better than 60% on 2-point attempts.

The 49ers have also done great when it comes to ball security, giving up a turnover on just 15.6% of possessions.

Even better than the offense has been the Charlotte defense. Though the 49ers have benefited from facing some less than stellar offenses, their defense is solid — at least, in my opinion.

Charlotte is holding teams to an effective field goal percentage of just 42.1%,  and it's been great at defending really everywhere on the floor — other than at the rim.

The 49ers are allowing teams to make 46.1% of attempts at the rim — the Division I average is 30.1%.

The good news for Charlotte is UMass struggles around the rim, hitting just 53.9% of attempts. Charlotte's considerable advantage when it comes to height should help that even more.

UMass vs. Charlotte Betting Pick

I think Charlotte is the better team at both ends of the floor, and UMass' luck will finally run out against the 49ers in this championship game.

The Minutemen do have an upper hand when it comes to 3-point shooting, which I think is one of their few advantages over this Charlotte team. Unfortunately, they rarely shoot from beyond the arc, logging just 17.5 3-point attempts per game.

Moreover, Charlotte has held teams to just 29.7% from beyond the arc so far this season.

Back Charlotte to finish the job in the championship game as a two-point favorite or better.
