Analysis: Thought to be leaving for other vacant head coaching positions, Matt Campbell was given a contract extension through 2025. The Cyclones had a preseason win total of 8, but finished just 7-5. The offense was highly successful, as quarterback Brock Purdy led an attack that ranked 15th in passing success rate. The offensive line was also one of the best in the country at pass protection, ranking sixth in sack rate. Analysis: One year removed from a No. 3 ranking and a birth in the College Football Playoff — only to endure a shellacking at the hands of Clemson — Notre Dame finished the 2019 regular season with two losses and a No. 15 ranking. The Irish are balanced on both sides of the both, sporting the 21st and 26th ranked offense and defense, respectively, per SP+. Their yards-per-play numbers, however, tell a slightly different story, as they rank 35th on the offensive side (6.25) and 11th on defense (4.68).
