Florida State Seminoles Betting Preview: Post-Norvell Era
Frustrations finally boiled over in Tallahassee this week, as the school scraped together the money to fire Mike Norvell following a third straight loss. The Seminoles fell to 3-5 on the season and have gone 10-22 over the last three years.
Offensive analyst Rick Stockstill will serve as the interim head coach for the rest of the season. Stockstill was the head coach at Middle Tennessee for 18 seasons from 2006-23.
Despite the disarray in this program, the team does still have some talent to work with.
The offense has been inconsistent but shows flashes — the 'Noles rank seventh in the country in explosiveness, and quarterback Ashton Daniels has been lethal with his legs this season, rushing for 12 touchdowns to go along with his 14 passing scores.
Florida State was dealt a massive blow, losing their star receiver Duce Robinson. The 'Noles best weapon tore his ACL against Clemson and will miss the rest of the season — this team had already lost running back Ousmane Kromah for the year.
This defense has been a disaster, though. Despite returning veteran defensive backs, the pass defense has been absolutely shredded. The Seminoles defense has allowed 7.9 yards per attempt this season, the most in the ACC.
The run defense hasn’t been much better. Florida State has a ton of issues tackling and sticking to its assignments, allowing way too many explosive plays. The Seminoles sit 121st at preventing explosives.
Boston College Eagles Betting Preview: One-Man Show
Boston College has been feisty this season, already eclipsing its preseason win total and doubling the mark it set last season.
After two straight conference wins, the Eagles got their doors blown off at Duke last week and look to get back on track as they return to Chestnut Hill.
Quarterback Mason McKenzie has been really impressive after transferring over from Division-II Saginaw Valley State.
Like Daniels, McKenzie has been more dangerous with his legs, rushing for over 600 yards with five scores to go along with eight passing touchdowns. He has the second-most rushing yards among all Power 4 quarterbacks this season.
The Eagles also lost their starting running back for the season, but Bo MacCormack III stepped up big in the win against Georgia Tech. He was stuffed against a great Duke run defense last week but should have a better matchup against the Seminoles defense.
Boston College has really improved defensively in the first season under new defensive coordinator Ted Roof after a disastrous 2025. It had done a really good job limiting big plays up until getting gashed by Duke's Nate Sheppard last week.
The secondary has done a good job for the Eagles this season, led by tackling machine KP Price and ballhawk cornerback Charlie Comella. Boston College leads the ACC with 14 turnovers forced, led mostly by Comella.

Florida State vs Boston College Pick, Betting Analysis
While it can be inconsistent at times, this Florida State offense has shown flashes of brilliance and can show off the talent advantage this offense has.
The Seminoles rank seventh in the country in explosiveness and should be able to hit plenty of big plays on this Boston College defense.
Florida State should especially have success on the ground. In fact, Duke just rushed for five touchdowns against this Eagles defense.
Even without Kromah and Robinson, Florida State still has a lot more talent than Boston College. Texas transfer Tre Wisner can step up at running back along with Daniels’ legs, and Jayvan Boggs and Micahi Danzy are plenty capable on the outside.
The Eagles offense is very one-dimensional, relying entirely on McKenzie to carry the unit with his arm and his legs. If the 'Noles defense can contain his legs and force him to throw from the pocket, Boston College will struggle to move the ball.
When it does move the ball, Florida State has done a decent job at preventing Points Per Opportunity and clamping down in the red zone, where Boston College has been abysmal. The Eagles rank 135th in the country in red-zone scoring.
Finally, I expect Florida State to get a big interim coach bump in this spot.
It's clear that this team had quit on Norvell, and his message was not getting through to them anymore. Stockstill is a 68-year-old with 18 years of head-coaching experience under his belt.
Even if just for one week, I expect him to put together a galvanizing message to this group. I actually think being on the road is a big advantage for Florida State here as well. Get away from the noise and the talk, and just go out and play football against a team you should be much better than.
We saw last week the interim head coaches go 3-0 against the spread with Baylor and NC State both blowing out their opponents. Expect Florida State to do the same here and take out all of its frustrations on Boston College this Saturday.
Pick: Florida State -7 or Better
