Pitt vs Miami College Football Preview

Pitt Panthers Betting Preview: A Costly Injury
The Panthers got off to a phenomenal start with five consecutive victories, earning a top-20 ranking heading into Week 6.
The regression was inevitable following a devastating season-ending injury to starting QB Mason Heintschel, who suffered a torn ACL versus Virginia Tech a few weeks ago.
Since Heintschel went down, the Panthers have lost consecutive games to North Carolina and Boston College with 6-foot-6 true freshman Corey Dailey under center.
In last week’s loss to Boston College, Dailey completed just 11 of his 25 passing attempts while also throwing just one touchdown and two interceptions.
Dailey will get another opportunity for redemption as the Panthers head to Coral Gables to face the nation’s top team, but it may be an uphill battle versus a Miami squad that barely beat its longtime rival, Florida State.
Pitt will need to rely on its freshman tailback Damon Ferguson Jr. in addition to the team’s leading receiver — senior wideout Cataurus Hicks — to make some big plays to keep its season alive.
While Pitt’s offensive firepower took a massive hit with Heintschel's devastating injury, its defense has fared relatively well, ranking 23rd in college football in opponents’ PPG.
There is no world where the Panthers can keep up with an up-tempo Miami offense of this caliber, especially on the road, which makes a stout effort from Pittsburgh’s defense its sole path to winning.
Miami Hurricanes Betting Preview: Mensah on a Tear
As Notre Dame and Georgia suffered their first losses of the season this past Saturday, Miami now claims the top spot in the country.
While the Irish and Bulldogs were just two of many ranked upsets in Week 7, Miami’s 43-35 double-overtime win over Florida State was also notable after a lackluster defensive performance.
Thankfully for the Canes, its superstar wideout Malachi Toney put on an absolute show, corralling 11 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning score that gave them the victory.
Though Miami’s Week 7 nail-biter versus a far inferior Noles squad may be perceived as slightly concerning, I tend to disagree, as I feel these hard-fought victories and losses are an inherent aspect of the sport.
Miami now can hit the mental “reset” button and prepare to host Pittsburgh.
QB Darian Mensah continues to prove why he ranks among the top players odds-wise on the Heisman Trophy Award futures board.
The Miami junior has been on an absolute tear in his first season in Coral Gables, throwing for 1,764 yards (17th), 18 touchdowns (T-4) and just one turnover. Mensah’s 89.4 QBR also leads all of college football.
Mensah to Toney has been an unstoppable connection all year, with Toney already racking up 758 receiving yards and eight touchdowns over Miami’s first six games.
The concern lies far more with Cristobal’s defensive unit. After allowing just 10 points per game to its opponents over the first five games, a struggling Florida State team just hung 35 on the Canes in the comfort of its own Hard Rock Stadium.
While this is definitely not something to overlook, I expect a major bounce back from their defense as they get a favorable matchup against the Panthers’ struggling quarterback.

Pitt vs Miami Pick, Betting Analysis
I remain a massive long-term Miami believer and currently hold preseason futures tickets on it to win the 2027 National Championship.
Over a season, it's hard to stay unscathed, especially when you face a tough conference schedule like the Hurricanes.
In this game, I favor Miami to cover its -6.5 first-quarter spread, as I expect Cristobal’s bunch to be highly motivated to get off to a scorching start after its scare against the Seminoles.
I'm also willing to take a shot on Mensah to maintain his remarkable form by throwing at least three touchdown passes.
Pick: Miami 1Q -6.5 (-108) | Darian Mensah Over 2.5 Pass TD (+162)
