Purdue Boilermakers Betting Preview
Purdue enters its second season under head coach Barry Odom following an abysmal 2025 campaign that saw the Boilermakers finish with a 2-10 overall record.
Quarterback Ryan Browne is off to a phenomenal start in his junior season, already throwing for 646 yards to rank 14th in all of college football thus far.
Browne has been remarkably efficient over the Boilermakers’ first two contests, throwing for four touchdowns without a single interception.
Former Minnesota running back Fame Ijeboi was one of several stellar acquisitions that Purdue made in the portal this offseason.
The 6-foot sophomore has already rushed for over 200 yards on the season while finding the end zone four times.
Junior wideout Asaad Waseem leads an elite receiving corps full of transfers. The former FAU Owl has already caught 12 passes for 172 yards and a touchdown in his first two games in West Lafayette.
Iowa State transfer wide receiver Xavier Townsend is also off to a hot start in his first season at Purdue, while senior Chauncey Magwood has put up some solid numbers despite not making an impact at the collegiate level before this season.
Odom’s Boilermakers rolled over Indiana State in their home opener before suffering a tough 38-36 loss to Wake Forest in an overtime thriller.
The Boilermakers are averaging 40 points per game over their first two matchups. However, they're set to face by far their most challenging defensive matchup of the season thus far in UCLA.
Defensively, Purdue brought back Kevin Kane as defensive coordinator after previously holding the same role in West Lafayette. Kane boasts a ton of experience, also coaching at Illinois, SMU, Minnesota and others.
He takes over a defensive unit that has been largely dreadful in recent years.
While it's yet to be seen how good Kane’s defense is following the first two games of the season, Saturday evening will be both a massive test and a huge opportunity.
UCLA Bruins Betting Preview
UCLA entered a major rebuilding phase heading into the 2026 season under new head coach Bob Chesney. Chesney put together a phenomenal run at James Madison las season, leading the Dukes to the College Football Playoff.
Chesney brought quite a few members of his coaching staff to UCLA, namely Dean Kennedy, who took over as the Bruins’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach heading into this season.
UCLA’s new defensive coordinator, Colin Hitschler, was also brought over from the Dukes’ successful coaching staff.
Senior Nico Iamaleava returned for his second season at UCLA, resuming his position as the Bruins’ starting QB following two years at Tennessee.
After a brutal first season in Los Angeles in 2025, the former Vols signal-caller has been far from impressive in the first two starts of his senior campaign despite the Bruins’ 2-0 start. Iamaleava has thrown for 335 yards with two interceptions and no touchdowns in two games against Cal and San Diego State.
On the ground, running back Wayne Knight had a monster 2025 campaign for James Madison, rushing for nearly 1,400 yards and six touchdowns.
To say Knight was a rather successful transfer would be an understatement. The Bruins 5-foot-7 speedster has already racked up 168 yards on the ground in addition to a whopping six touchdowns over UCLA’s first two contests.
Knight is one of two halfbacks who have shined over UCLA’s first two contests, with senior running back Anthony Woods rushing for 148 yards on the ground as well. He ranks seventh in the entire country with 9.3 yards per carry.
However, it all comes back to the player under center. Given Iamaleava’s vast struggles as QB1 for Tennessee, it's tough to ignore his inefficiency under center over the Bruins’ first two contests.
Purdue vs UCLA Pick, Betting Analysis
Though the Bruins are a massive two-touchdown favorites ahead of Saturday’s Big Ten clash, I'm expecting a far closer game than the odds indicate.
I view UCLA as the better team with a slight home-field edge as well, but I'm far from convinced that Iamaleava is any better than he has shown in the past.
While I expect UCLA to pick up the outright victory on Saturday night, I definitely favor backing the road Boilermakers to cover the +14.5 spread in a game that could be tight down the stretch.
