There have been countless injuries in Super Bowls over the years, but perhaps none as fluky as the one suffered by San Francisco’s stud linebacker Dre Greenlaw. The 49ers punted the ball back to the Chiefs, and Greenlaw started to head onto the field when his leg buckled.

He immediately went to the blue medical tent, and was carted off the field. San Francisco announced him as questionable to return with a lower leg injury before clarifying he hurt his Achilles.

The 49ers officially announced he would not return shortly before halftime.

Greenlaw was+50000 to win Super Bowl MVP. He recorded 75 tackles and 1.5 sacks during the regular season, and had three tackles midway through the second quarter. The 49ers had held the Chiefs scoreless when he went down with the injury.
