Raiders vs Jets NFL Week 8 Preview

Las Vegas Raiders Betting Preview

This is purely a situational fade of a Raiders team that has "letdown" written all over them.

Las Vegas is traveling all the way across the country for an early kick in potential bad weather after an absolutely grueling four-game stretch against the Rams, Bills, Patriots, and Chiefs. The Raiders are bruised, battered, and emotionally drained.

The Raiders defense looked great in Weeks 1-2 against Miami and Los Angeles (Chargers), but that was a complete mirage. Since Week 3, the Raiders are basically the worst defense in the NFL across every single major metric.

The Raiders also cannot run the football on offense, ranking dead last in both Rush EPA and Rush Success Rate despite investing a first-round draft pick in Ashton Jeanty last year. Without a mobile quarterback to bail them out, this offense is entirely one-dimensional.

New York Jets Betting Preview

The Jets are 1-4 in one-possession games and have been a bit unlucky, but the main factor here is that their offense should finally be fully healthy.

The Jets have dealt with injuries from the jump, but things are looking up on that front. Getting Dylan Parham back is a huge upgrade at guard, Breece Hall and Braelon Allen are good to go in the backfield, Adonai Mitchell is back to stretch the defense, rookie Omar Cooper looks great, and both tight ends Kenyon Sadiq and Mason Taylor are healthy.

Geno Smith should finally have a full arsenal to work with in this game, or something close to it.

Smith throws short on roughly 55% of his passes, which bodes well in a matchup against a Raiders defense that is the worst in the league against short passing attacks.

Yes, the Jets' run defense is problematic (24th in Rush EPA, 25th in Success Rate), and they are dealing with injuries to the defensive line, but as I mentioned above, Las Vegas doesn't have the rushing attack to take advantage of it.

Raiders vs Jets Prediction, Betting Analysis

This is a terrible travel spot for a bad Raiders team coming off a brutal scheduling gauntlet.

The Jets have clear schematic advantages through the air, and their defensive weakness against the run probably won't be exposed by this Las Vegas's running backs.

I'll back New York to cover the short number here.

Pick: Jets -1.5 (-110)
