Chargers vs Rams NFL Week 8 Preview

Los Angeles Chargers Betting Preview

I say this every week but it remains true: the Chargers offense is broken, and they appear to be making no significant changes with the club publicly backing much-maligned offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.

No one wants to back this team … but this is their kitchen sink game.

Coming out of the bye week, the Chargers are getting significantly healthier on both sides of the ball and expecting reinforcements in the secondary and at the skill positions.

Most importantly, the Chargers defense matches up perfectly against what the Rams want to do. Because of the injury of Davante Adams, the Rams are leaning into big, heavy offensive personnel packages — the Chargers have been one of the best defenses in the entire league at shutting down heavy personnel.

Los Angeles Rams Betting Preview

While the Chargers are getting healthy, the Rams are dealing with mounting cluster injuries.

The Rams have already lost multiple pieces on the offensive and defensive lines, and now they are dealing with the loss of Davante Adams. He joins the likes of Poona Ford, Myles Garrett, Terrance Ferguson, and Kobie Turner on injured reserve.

Chargers vs Rams Prediction, Betting Analysis

When you factor in the injury variance trending in the Chargers' favor, the schematic defensive advantages for Los Angeles against heavy sets, and a glaring special teams edge, I think the Chargers are live underdogs to win their first game of the season.

With two weeks to prepare, expect the Chargers to figure out a way to move the ball just enough against a depleted Rams roster.

This is essentially neutral-site game at SoFi Stadium — there will undoubtedly be more Rams fans, but that should be something Chargers players should be accustomed to by now.

Pick: Chargers Moneyline (+245)
