Rams vs Commanders NFL Week 9 Preview
This handicap is entirely a bet against the health of Matthew Stafford.
Stafford looked horrendous last week. He was seen icing his shoulder on the sideline, and the film backed up the injury concerns. He posted the lowest average depth of target (aDOT) of his entire career.
The ball was fluttering out of his hand, floating downfield with hardly any zip — and if your quarterback cannot physically drive the football, you are in major trouble.
To make matters worse, the Rams are still without Davante Adams on the outside, and their defense lost starting cornerback Jaylen Watson for the season. One major positive for the Rams on the injury front is that Myles Garrett is expected to play in this game. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year has been sidelined since Week 1 after undergoing knee surgery.
The Commanders defense remains incredibly stout against the run, largely thanks to their Brian Flores-esque scheme. They blitz relentlessly, fill the interior gaps, and make life miserable for opposing running backs.
Offensively, Jayden Daniels and company continue to move the ball with efficiency.
Daniels can easily use his legs to extend plays, which will be vital against a Rams defensive front that will have both Aaron Donald and Myles Garrett.
Rams vs Commanders Prediction, Betting Analysis
If the betting market is not properly accounting for Matthew Stafford operating at less than 100% with a compromised throwing shoulder, then the Commanders are very live underdogs in this spot.
I'll take a flier on the Washington moneyline this week.
Pick: Commanders Moneyline (+190)
