Pittsburgh Steelers Betting Preview: Bad Matchup for Aaron Rodgers

The Steelers cashed for me last week against the Colts in a dream situational spot, but I am actively looking to sell them today.

Pittsburgh's offense is incredibly one-dimensional — the Steelers rank fourth in EPA per play when using play-action, but plummet to 30th without it.

Because they won't be able to run the ball effectively against Tampa Bay's elite run defense, the Steelers will be forced into known passing situations on third down. That is a disaster for a team currently completing an NFL-worst 43% of their third-down passes.

Aaron Rodgers has been horrendous against man coverage this year and holds a putrid 30% pressure-to-sack ratio when blitzed, which doesn't bode well against a Bucs defense that blitzes at a high rate.

Defensively, Pittsburgh's secondary is banged up with Jamel Dean and DeShon Elliott dealing with injuries.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Betting Preview: The Unluckiest Team

The Buccaneers are arguably the unluckiest team in the league.

Without Antoine Winfield, head coach Todd Bowles has upped his man-coverage rates and will almost certainly bring relentless blitz packages against Aaron Rodgers.

Offensively, Jalon Daniels has provided a much-needed spark in the absence of Baker Mayfield. The Bucs have simplified the offense with more screens, leaning heavily on Bucky Irving, and getting the ball out quicker to neutralize pressure.

Daniels' mobility adds a completely different dynamic that the Steelers' pass rush will struggle to contain.

Steelers vs Buccaneers Prediction, Betting Analysis

This is a tremendous buy-low spot on the Bucs who enter this home game with extra rest after upsetting the Cowboys on Thursday Night Football, while selling high on a Steelers team coming off a highly favorable matchup against a jet-lagged Colts team.

The Bucs' man-heavy blitz schemes will torment Aaron Rodgers in obvious passing downs, and Jalon Daniels should be able to generate enough offense with his legs for the Bucs to secure the cover.

Pick: Buccaneers +2.5 (-105)
