Texans-Chiefs Projected Odds

Sean Koerner, The Action Network's director of predictive analytics, uses his NFL Power Ratings to project odds for this matchup.

  • Spread: Chiefs -8
  • Over/under: 48

Texans' Path to the Divisional Round

  • Straight-Up Record: 10-5
  • Against the Spread Record: 7-7-1
  • Over/Under Record: 6-9

It wasn't an easy path to the playoffs, but the Texans are onto the Divisional Round after mounting a comeback win against the Bills in overtime on Saturday. The victory must be particularly sweet given that Deshaun Watson & Co. failed to advance past Wild Card Round last season, though their next opponent could be even more challenging to take down.

The Texans draw the 2-seeded Chiefs, though it's worth nothing that Houston beat Kansas City on the road during the regular season. Our model — which simulates the playoffs 10,000 times — actually gives the Texans a 22.6% chance of advancing to the AFC title game.

Chiefs' Path to the Divisional Round

  • Straight-Up Record: 12-4
  • Against the Spread Record: 10-5-1
  • Over/Under Record: 8-8

It wasn't the smoothest route to their fifth straight postseason, but the Chiefs weathered a mid-season injury to Patrick Mahomes and managed to clinch the AFC West with relative ease. Now they'll look to return to the AFC Championship Game, where they fell just short of a Super Bowl appearance with their 37-31 loss to the Patriots last season.

Standing in Kansas City's way? The Texans, who beat the Chiefs 31-24 at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 6.

Our model now gives the Chiefs a 17% chance to win the Super Bowl, up from an 11.3% heading into the weekend. Their +360 Super Bowl odds are the second-best at FanDuel as of writing.
