Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals between the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars will be played tonight at 8 p.m. ET at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. It will be broadcast on ESPN and streamed on ESPN+.
From the prairies to the deep south, the Stars look to keep this series alive, currently facing a 3-1 deficit. If they can't, it'll be the second consecutive year that they couldn't make it over the hump at the hands of the Oilers. Regardless, we should be in for a battle in Dallas.

Edmonton Oilers Preview: Entering Dallas with Crude Intentions
Edmonton walks into the fire without one of its heavy hitters.
After a questionable hit from Mason Marchment, it was revealed that Zach Hyman suffered a broken wrist that requires surgery, which renders him out for the rest of the playoffs.
Hyman’s physicality, wall play and play in front of the net will be sorely missed, but it opens the door for the Oilers’ depth. My first guess would be that Jeff Skinner slots in, but wouldn’t be surprised if Kris Knoblauch opts for a physical player like Max Jones or Derek Ryan.
One of the stars of this series is Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who has dazzled with at least two points in each of the four games played.
Of course, this all wouldn’t be possible without the work of Stuart Skinner, who is making me eat copious amounts of crow at the moment.
“Stuey” as the kids call him, is playing some of the best hockey of his life at an incredible time. He has stopped 84 out of the last 86 shots he’s faced behind a defense that has let up a decent amount of scoring chances.
Just check the “Deserve-To-Win O’Meter” on MoneyPuck for the past two games. It signified that Dallas had played the better game and generated more scoring chances. In the end though, it was the high-end skill and the top notch goaltending of Edmonton.
Now watch Skinner blow this game after I just praised him. It’s inevitable.

Dallas Stars Preview: Need a Lone Star Miracle
You have to imagine that the frustration is mounting in Big D.
To play the way the Stars have played in the past three games, only to get outscored 13-2 has to be a proverbial kick in the groin.
Jason Robertson finally found his way on the scoresheet in the past two games, and was the only Star to figure out Skinner.
The chances have been there for the Stars. They dominated 5-on-5 play on Sunday with a 66.87 xGF%, and on Tuesday had a 56.3 xGF%, but it just wasn’t enough.
Perhaps a top notch performance from Jake Oettinger will help. Oettinger, who was the MVP of the Western Conference semifinals against the Jets, was a shell of himself in the first three games of this series.
It was only on Tuesday where “Otter” showed up and gave his team a chance to win, stopping 29 out of 31 shots, and the best they could do is only net one goal.
Nothing seems to be going in the Stars’ way right now. When one thing goes right, the other goes awry and vice versa. Now, they’re staring at a 3-1 deficit at home, where they’ve been solid during the postseason.
Oilers vs. Stars Prediction, Pick
The total for this game is at 5.5 goals and if you know me, you know I love to hammer Oiler overs.
Is it the right play considering on Tuesday, my over bet completely bombed? It’s hard to say, but I will always take my chances with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Not to mention Robertson and Mikko Rantanen on the other side.
Perhaps this will be the game Skinner lets in more than one goal. Either way, I don’t think I’ll be surprised as to what he does moving forward. The transformation he’s made this postseason has been truly remarkable.
Oddsmakers are definitely making this game a low total due to the goaltending play from Tuesday, and I don’t blame them. But I like to live life on the edge. Let’s hammer this over.
Pick: Over 5.5 (+135)
Oilers vs Stars Game 5 Parlay
DraftKings has a fun little promo parlay for the four stars I previously mentioned.
It’s a +750 parlay that requires McDavid, Draisaitl, Robertson and Rantanen to all register 3+ shots.
In Game 4, the only one that missed the mark was Rantanen, and had it not been for a shot off the post, he would’ve had three.
Robertson is also feeling his oats a little bit more and getting a lot more confidence shooting the puck, while McDavid will pepper shots from any part of the ice.
The one question mark is the Rocket Richard winner in Draisaitl. He’s more than capable, but I’ve always seen Draisaitl as a more methodical and cerebral player rather than the classical sniper he’s pegged as.
Either way, I’m putting a half unit on this parlay, and I think it’s a very good chance that this hits.
Enjoy the game.
- Connor McDavid 3+ Shots
- Leon Draisaitl 3+ Shots
- Mikko Rantanen 3+ Shots
- Jason Robertson 3+ Shots
Parlay odds: +750 (DraftKings)
