With the Premier League campaign less than a week away, the season kicks off in England on Sunday with the Community Shield between Manchester City and Arsenal at Wembley Stadium.

The annual event brings together the EPL champion and the side that won the FA Cup last season, which spans all the way back to the first edition happening in 1908.

By pairing a treble-winning team with a club that had multiple big summer signings, this sets up to be an exciting affair.

There will be plenty of attacking talent on the field, but I believe a few absentees could provide betting value on the under in the final preseason fixture.

Arsenal Eager to Utilize Revamped Squad

After pushing City to the limit last season, The Gunners have followed up with a summer full of exciting additions to make another run at the league title.

The biggest splash was bringing in former West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, who comes to North London thanks to a record fee worth over $130 million. He should slot right into the midfield after Granit Xhaka left the club during this same window.

Mikel Arteta also bolstered his attack by signing Kai Havertz from Chelsea for another large fee, while defender Jurrien Timber rounds out the signings after coming to the EPL from Ajax.

The only disappointing thing that sticks out from the summer has been the injury to striker Gabriel Jesus, who is likely to miss the beginning of the campaign after picking up a knock in preseason.

Man City The Same Old Club

How does Manchester City follow up winning the treble last season? Pep Guardiola always demands the best from his teams, but this could be a tough task after securing so much silverware in the last campaign.

The only new face through their door thus far is the signing of Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovačić. He has played the last five seasons at Chelsea.

He has big boots to fill after the departure of former club captain and midfield maestro İlkay Gündoğan. The German was joined on the way out by Riyad Mahrez, signed by Saudi Arabia club Al-Ahli.

Like Arsenal, the Cityzens could also be without a key attacker as Kevin De Bruyne has yet to feature in the preseason due to a hamstring injury he picked up during the UCL final.

Arsenal vs Man City Pick

When these clubs have met in recent seasons, the matches have typically featured goals for both sides. However, I don’t see the offenses being so free flowing in their first competitive fixture of the campaign.

I like the total falling under the Asian line of 2.75 goals at +110 odds (Bet365), and I also like the prices of 2.5 goals if your book only offers the standard totals.

This has also been a profitable bet for both managers in the Community Shield. Since Guardiola came to Manchester City, this play would have cashed in three of four occasions.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s lone appearance under Arteta also finished with only a pair of goals in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool in 2020.

If you remove last season’s match, there was a string of five straight Community Shield games that didn’t have more than a pair of goals.

Once you add in the fact that both are missing key attack pieces, I really like the value being offered for this under.

The Pick: Under 2.75 Goals (+110)
