After wrapping up the Supercopa de España over the weekend, cup soccer continues in Spain with the Copa del Rey round of 16 this midweek, which is headlined by the Madrid Derby on Thursday.

Real Madrid won their first silverware of the season with a dominant win over Barcelona in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid are looking for its first domestic cup trophy since winning this competition in 2013.

In the derby over the weekend, I backed goals, and I believe this is another rivalry match that should be high-scoring.

So, my best bet is for the total to fly over 2.5 goals at -134 odds at bet365, which I would play to -145. You could also pair this with both teams to score at +105 odds for a better price.

Starting first with the hosts, eight of 10 La Liga matches at the Cívitas Metropolitano Stadium have had at least three goals, including all three against top 10 sides. This also cashed in two of three UCL matches at home.

Meanwhile, three of Real Madrid’s five league fixtures against teams in the top half of the table went over this same total. All three of the road Champions League games finished with at least three goals.

The other key to this is the fact that Ancelotti is missing key defensive pieces in his lineup. His primary center backs of David Alaba and Éder Militão are joined on the sidelines by starting keeper Thibaut Courtois.

This is not good against the potent Atlético attack, and it also helps that Real Madrid’s attack is also flowing with goals right now. Give me the over in another cup derby in Spain.
