What's more entertaining than watching a match with tons of scoring? Well, maybe a penalty shootout … but that's another story.

The 2026 World Cup is about to begin as the biggest event in soccer gets underway on June 11. And, naturally, Kalshi has plenty of markets surrounding the tournament.

One of the most interesting? "World Cup: Total Goals."

Kalshi also offers a variety of other unique markets, and if you want to get in on the action yourself, use our Kalshi promo code to get started.

How Many Goals Will Be Scored in 2026 World Cup?

With 48 nations competing and a record 104 matches on the schedule, the expectation is that more games mean more goals. Kalshi's market reflects that idea, with 270+ goals emerging as one of the stronger positions, and projections from various models tend to hover around the 282.5-goal mark.

The recent international friendlies certainly helped that case. Even with many teams rotating lineups and resting key starters, goals came in bunches. The World Cup should raise the intensity, with attacking stars finally sharing the field at full strength.

That said, there's an interesting trade-off once you start looking at the higher thresholds. Markets like 280+ and 290+ goals become much tougher to hit. Reaching 290 goals over 104 matches would require an average of roughly 2.8 goals per game. That's hardly impossible, but far from a lock.

The expanded format also creates uncertainty. Several nations are making their World Cup debut and could struggle to score consistently, even if some of the tournament favorites pile up lopsided wins. Will the heavyweights inflate the total with a few routs, or will the newcomers drag the average down with low-scoring performances?

That's the balancing act traders have to weigh before picking a side.

What is Kalshi?

Different than a traditional sportsbook and available in most states, Kalshi allows users to make predictions across several unique markets, including sports, entertainment, elections, and even weather.

Also, Kalshi's refer-a-friend program is a "win-win" for prediction market traders. By inviting a friend to the platform, both you and your friend receive a $25 credit once you both meet the initial trading requirements.

Kalshi operates on a contract-based system where users buy "contracts" (priced between 1–99 cents) based on whether they believe a specific event will happen. The price of each contract fluctuates in real time based on market sentiment, and like the stock market, traders can sell positions early to lock in profits (or minimize losses).
