Sabalenka vs Jovic Preview, Prediction
by Tudor Cosma
Sabalenka is the best player in the world, and this season she has already recorded eight victories, all without dropping a set.
A third consecutive title here seems plausible, but this match is not expected to be easy at all.
Sabalenka faced significant pressure against Anastasia Potapova in a match that featured eight breaks of serve, and she struggled to manage the second set against Victoria Mboko, nearly losing it before prevailing in a tiebreak. She conceded two breaks in that match as well.
Jovic is the new sensation of the WTA and looks every bit a future Grand Slam champion. Over the winter, Jovic worked extensively on her strength and aggression, and her performance here in Melbourne proves she is fast becoming a top 10-caliber athlete.
She has not dropped a set in her first four matches, cruising past high-level opponents like Jasmine Paolini and Yulia Putintseva. Those matches featured 10 and seven breaks of serve, respectively.
In this match, she will be highly motivated, playing the biggest match of her career so far, and I believe she will put up a formidable fight.
Given Sabalenka's occasional lapses in service consistency when pressured and Jovic's exceptional return game and current momentum, I expect a high number of service exchanges.
Consequently, I believe we will see over 5.5 breaks in the match, and if your sportsbook offers this, I really like this pick.
Pick: Over 5.5 Breaks of Serve in the Match
