Carlos Avilan's Alcaraz vs Shelton Preview, Prediction

Carlos Alcaraz Betting Preview

The reigning French Open champion has been tested in the past two rounds. After winning his debut in straight sets, the Spaniard had to go to four sets against Fabian Marozsan and Damir Dzumhur to defeat them.

Despite this, everyone expects him to be in the final again.

"All the people who can challenge him are on the top half of the draw," said Alexander Zverev in a press conference.

This is not to say that Ben Shelton won't be able to do anything, but it would be a major surprise.

Regarding the rest of the draw, Zverev has a point: Alcaraz would have to face Alexei Popyrin or Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals and Lorenzo Musetti/Holger Rune/Frances Tiafoe/Daniel Altmaier in an eventual semifinal.

While Alcaraz keeps serving well, he can win long rallies and defend anything Shelton throws at him.

One aspect the Spaniard must improve, especially if he wants to shorten the game and save his legs for future rounds, is his break-point conversion. In his last match, Alcaraz only had 33% effectiveness in break opportunities (7-of-21).

Ben Shelton Betting Preview

With his run at the ATP 500 in Munich, where he lost the final against Zverev, Ben Shelton let everyone know he was ready to fight on clay.

The 2025 Australian Open semifinalist had never gotten past the third round at Roland Garros, so this is already his best showing in Paris.

Can he take down Alcaraz? That remains a tall order for him, but at least he has the will and fresh legs to try since he advanced on a walkover to the third round, where he defeated Matteo Gigante in three sets.

Shelton can rely on his great serve. The American hit 25 aces between the two matches he played this week. If he can shorten the rallies and play aggressively, he will stand a better chance.

Alcaraz vs Shelton Predictions, Betting Analysis

The head-to-head record favors Alcaraz two games to none.

The World No. 2 beat Shelton in 2023 at the Masters in Canada, 6-3 and 7-6(3), and then in 2024 at the Laver Cup, 6-4 and 6-4, both on hard court.

The Spaniard has enough experience to know he should be patient here. Playing from the baseline will help him find better angles and spaces to move Shelton around and hit a winner or wait for his opponent's mistake.

It might not be swift, but this match belongs to Alcaraz, barring injury.
