Jon Reid's Quinn vs Majchrzak Preview, Prediction

Ethan Quinn Betting Preview

Once touted as a future top player in the game, it’s taken Quinn a bit of time to blossom on the professional circuit. He made the decision to head to Georgia to play college tennis, and though that helps many players develop their games, he stumbled out of the blocks when making the shift to pro tennis.

Those concerns have been alleviated though for those who watch him play on a consistent basis. His ceiling may always be a tad lower than many because of his less-than-stellar movement and mediocre return game, but there’s no denying his ability to dictate play and absolutely crush a tennis ball.

His first serve and forehand combination are as good as anyone’s in his ranking range and the third-round appearance in Paris (as a qualifier) and now the potential to be in the final 32 in SW19 as well should put him on even the casual fan’s radar.

Quinn took care of a tricky young British lefty in Henry Searle last round, and while Majchrzak is probably better suited than the teen he played previously, I don’t think he has the firepower. That means Quinn should have the benefit of a bit more time on return and in baseline exchanges – something you really don’t want to give him.

Kamil Majchrzak Betting Preview

I was a big beneficiary of Majchrzak’s upset win against Matteo Berrettini in the opening round. That bet, however, was more a disbelief in Berrettini and his lack of play and fitness in recent times than it was an endorsement of Majchrzak.

Don’t get me wrong. Majchrzak has proven himself competent on the surface in the past and is better off in quicker conditions than on clay, but he himself had been on an extended losing streak prior to playing the big Italian.

When he’s taking on someone with better form, better weapons and who is equally as comfortable on quicker courts, I think he’s going to be in for a much tougher time.

Quinn vs Majchrzak Predictions, Betting Analysis

I think it’s always important to ask why the market is off when making a wager.

Is it an undervaluation of an unknown youngster? Perhaps an overreaction to one good win? How about a lack of context applied to recent form?

In this case, it’s a combination of overvaluing Majchrzak’s win against a Berrettini who was clearly playing at below 100% (and still needed five sets) and the fact that there’s a lack of understanding that Quinn can match or exceed Majchrzak in almost every relevant playing quality that matters on a grass court.
