Fernando Romero's Jakub Mensik vs Alexandre Muller Preview, Prediction
Jakub Mensik Betting Preview
"Remember when tennis was easy? Bunch of random people in top 50. Now this guy is not even top 5, huh?"
That was Alexander Bublik's comment to umpire Mohamed Lahyani in the Madrid Masters 1000. The "guy" he was talking about was teenage sensation Mensik.
The 19-year-old Czech has seized the 2025 season, improving on a solid 2024 year with even more impressive results. An inspired Alejandro Davidovich Fokina took him out of the Australian Open, and he disappointed at Indian Wells, but the best was to come.
He stormed to a maiden ATP Masters 1000 title in Miami, beating newly-crowned Indian Wells champion Jack Draper, local hope Taylor Fritz and even Grand Slam record winner Novak Djokovic in the final.
He's transitioned to clay fairly well. While he'll never be quite at home away from a fast court, the 6-foot-4 Mensik moves very well and brings a modern spin to the traditional serve-dependent play style with his powerful groundstrokes and varied shot selection.
Alexandre Muller Betting Preview
In the form of his life, Muller enters the French Open with his highest-ever ranking, just inside the top 40.
The Frenchman won his maiden title in January, beating Japan's Kei Nishikori in the Hong Kong Open, and could've added another at Rio, falling in the final to defending champion Sebastián Báez.
With a 17-12 record for the season, Muller struggled for form early on during the clay campaign. However, a third-round appearance in Madrid and his results in Hamburg (stunning world No. 3 Alexander Zverev at home and taking Felix Auger-Aliassime to three sets in the quarterfinals) suggest positive things to come.
Rock solid from the baseline, but without much in terms of attacking game, he relies on clever shot-making and well-timed counters.
Jakub Mensik vs Alexandre Muller Predictions, Betting Analysis
Both players will be cursing their luck, as both were a great candidate for a third-round berth with a bit more luck in the draw.
In any case, we're left with a match that will tell us much about what either can do in this French Open.
Muller is in inspired form and will have home support on his side as the fourth-best-ranked French player in the draw. But I ultimately think Mensik's game is too strong for the home favorite to withstand in a best-of-five match.
Mensik is world tennis' best prospect this side of Joao Fonseca, so barring a very uninspired effort from the Czech, I trust we'll see him in the next round.
