Carmine Carcieri's Fritz vs Davidovich Fokina Preview, Prediction
Taylor Fritz Betting Preview
As the top-ranked American on the ATP Tour, there's a lot of pressure on Fritz to break through in a Grand Slam.
The United States hasn't had a major champion on the men's side since Andy Roddick back in 2003, and Fritz really hasn't been close to breaking through outside of a finals appearance at the US Open in 2024.
In fact, as I mentioned in another preview of Fritz earlier in this tournament, the American has had questionable results in Grand Slams. He's lost before the Round of 16 in seven of his last 14 appearances in majors, including four exits in the first two rounds.
The shaky play has continued at the All-England Club, as Fritz had to rally twice in two matches, going the distance in both.
However, the draw has been difficult for Fritz (playing the 36th-ranked player and the 40th-ranked player in the first two rounds isn't a walk in the park), and he did win Eastbourne last week, showing his solid form on grass.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Betting Preview
Davidovich Fokina isn't known for his play on the grass. The Spaniard is 6-10 overall on the surface in his career, making it by far his lowest win percentage across the clay, hard and grass trifecta.
Davidovich Fokina is at his best when playing on slower clay and hard courts.
Regardless of his career results, he had a solid tune-up in Eastbourne, taking Fritz to three sets in the semifinals after beating No. 17-ranked Jakub Mensik in the quarters. He's also easily dispatched both Brandon Holt (three sets) and Botic van de Zandschulp in Wimbledon this week.
You know you're going to get Davidovich Fokina's best effort whenever he steps on the court, which is bad news for Fritz, as he likely needs a quick match at this stage of the tournament.
Fritz vs Davidovich Fokina Predictions, Betting Analysis
Fritz is the superior player, especially on grass, but Davidovich Fokina actually has the head-to-head advantage on all surfaces (3-2 in his career), just took the American to three sets last week and has the fitness edge.
Fritz has been on the court a lot over the last week, playing three three-setters in Eastbourne and two five-setters in London already.
I don't trust Fritz, in general, in the biggest of spots — and even more so when he's likely fatigued and facing a fresh, active player in Davidovich Fokina.
The Spaniard should keep this close, and if you're feeling super confident, sprinkle on the moneyline in an event that's been wild and wacky.
Pick: Davidovich Fokina +4.5
