2024 Farmers Insurance Open Updated Odds & Preview

The PGA Tour heads to Torrey Pines (North & South Courses) in La Jolla, California for the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open after amateur Nick Dunlap held off Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Sam Burns and Justin Thomas on Sunday to win The American Express.

Dunlap was in the field again this week for the Farmers Insurance Open and had outright odds of +9000 as of Monday morning at bet365, but he has since withdrawn from the tournament and is now off the board.

Last year's Farmers Insurance Open champion, Max Homa, is in the field this week to defend his title at +1200 at bet365. Homa will make his second start of the PGA Tour season this week after finishing in a tie for 14th at The Sentry earlier this month. Homa has finished in the top 14 in each of his last nine worldwide starts, including a win at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in November on the DP World Tour.

Homa has the third-shortest betting odds behind outright betting favorite Xander Schauffele at +950. The La Jolla native enters after finishing in a tie for third this past weekend at The American Express as he now has consecutive top-10 finishes to start the season after a T10 at The Sentry. Schauffele has played the Farmers Insurance Open eight times before and finished as high as a tie for second in 2021.

Patrick Cantlay is second on the odds board behind Schauffele at +1100 to win the Farmers Insurance Open. He is coming off of a disappointing final-round 76 at The American Express where he finished T52. The UCLA product is making his first appearance at Torrey Pines since a T15 at the 2021 U.S. Open and has not played in this event since 2019, when he missed the cut.

Los Angeles native Collin Morikawa is fourth on the outright odds board at +1200 to win this week at bet365. Morikawa had a strong showing in his season debut at The Sentry when he finished T5. He makes his third start at The Farmers Insurance Open this week after finishing solo third here last season. The Cal Bear also played well at Torrey Pines (South) in the 2021 U.S. Open when he tied for fourth.

Ludvig Aberg is the final golfer with odds of 20-1 or shorter as he opened at +1900 to win outright this week. The 24-year-old has posted a T30 at the Sony Open in Hawaii and a T47 at The Sentry to start his season after he won his first PGA Tour event in his last start of the FedExCup Fall at the RSM Classic. He makes his professional debut at Torrey Pines this week.

Finally, some other notables in the field this week and their outright odds include Sungjae Im (+2400), Jason Day (+2700), Tony Finau (+2700), Keegan Bradley (+3000) and Min Woo Lee (+2700).

2024 Farmers Insurance Open Course Preview

The Farmers Insurance Open is the second event of the 2024 PGA Tour season that will be hosted by multiple courses. All 156 golfers will play one round at each Torrey Pines North and Torrey Pines South before a 36-hole cut, and the final two rounds will be held at Torrey Pines South.

Torrey Pines North is a 7,258-yard par-72 designed in 1957 by William P. Bell and William F. Bell and renovated in 2016 by Tom Weiskopf. The North course features an average green size of 6,000 square feet and fairway widths of 24-27 yards. Greens feature Bentgrass while the fairways have Ryegrass overseed. There are 42 bunkers but no water hazards on the course along with four-inch rough.

Torrey Pines South course is a 7,765-yard par-72 designed by William P. Bell and William F. Bell in 1957 and renovated by Rees Jones in 2001 and 2019. The South course was the longest track on Tour last season as it features an average green size of 5,000 square feet, and as a result, Torrey Pines South and Muirfield Village (the Memorial) are the only two courses on Tour that are longer than 7,500 yards and have greens of 5,000 square feet or smaller.

The South course features Poa Annua greens along with ryegrass overseed in the fairways, that are 24-27 yards wide, and four-inch rough. Overall, there are 82 sand bunkers on the course and one water hazard, on the 18th hole.

Historically, Strokes Gained (SG): Putting and SG: Approach have been the most correlated with SG: Total at the Farmers Insurance Open, with SG: Around the Green third and SG: Off the Tee last.
