2024 Dubai Invitational & Sony Open Picks: Bet Sahith Theegala, Kalle Samooja & More

It was quite the welcome back to golf last week. We got Akshay Bhatia into the final group on Sunday only for him to shoot the worst round of the day. New year, same sport.

I'll be changing up this post this year and focusing more on best bets globally. So with the DP World Tour set to open in Dubai this week, we'll highlight that as well. As more tours get going, we'll tack them on as well.

Sony Open in Hawaii Picks

Best Bet: Sahith Theegala +3300

My Sony Open in Hawaii betting strategy has been to just focus on the participants from the Sentry the week prior, although Si Woo Kim broke that trend last year. Nonetheless, getting some competitive rounds in and shaking off any rust still provides some value for those top golfers who were in the field last week at Kapalua.

So I'll go with Theegala here. He finished solo second with a real chance to win last week and was among the top 10 in Strokes Gained: Approach. Theegala is a long hitter but has found a lot of his success on the shorter courses so far early in his career with top 10s at Sea Island, Harbour Town and TPC River Highlands.

His only real weakness is accuracy off the tee, but I'd imagine these shorter courses allow him to club down quite often and keep the ball in play. We've seen this with other players in the past, notably Gary Woodland.

Dubai Invitational Picks

Best Bet: Kalle Samooja +12000

With Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood at the top of the board here, it's tough to find much in this field to be excited about. These two have won a combined six times in the UAE.

There's a new course for this limited field event, so I focused on results in other Dubai events as a well as Abu Dhabi and Qatar.

That led me to Samooja, who recently won the LIV qualifier event in Saudi Arabia. He has three top-five finishes in the region since 2020 and was in the top 25 in three of his final five DP World Tour starts.

With the star power at the top, it's probably best to get some top-five or top-10 bets in on Samooja as opposed to only an outright. Nonetheless this is a golfer who is in great form on a type of golf course where he's had success.
