This is a low bar, but Carson Palmquist is going to trip over it.
He’s struggled mightily against right-handed hitters this season, and the matchup is brutal.
We also have tremendous weather in the best park for offense once again. Arizona hung two touchdowns on Colorado in similar conditions on Friday night, also against a left-handed starter.
Palmquist has a weak 14% strikeout rate through six starts, and that number slips below 10% against right-handed hitters. He’s posted nine strikeouts to 12 walks against right-handed hitters this season.
Arizona boasts the lowest team strikeout rate against southpaws among MLB lineups. The Snakes will likely only have one lefty in the lineup on Saturday, and it’s the high-contact Josh Naylor (16.7% strikeout rate against left-handed pitching).
The Snakes tagged Carson Palmquist for five earned runs over four innings in his first start, and the young lefty failed to record a strikeout. I expect a similar result.
