While the Cleveland Guardians enter play Tuesday five games below .500 at 33-38, the American League Central is still wide open for the taking. The Guardians are only two games behind the Minnesota Twins for the chance to sneak into the playoffs.

This game at home against the Oakland Athletics, who have the worst record in the American League at 19-55, takes on additional importance for the Guardians. It's a game they should win because it's against a team they should beat, but also it's a game they need to win for the standings.

Let's cook up a same-game parlay with the Guardians coming out on top Tuesday.

The Parlay (+455):

  • Aaron Civale Over 5.5 Strikeouts
  • Andres Gimenez 2+ Total Bases
  • Guardians -1.5

Same-Game Parlay – Cleveland Guardians vs Oakland Athletics

Aaron Civale Over 5.5 Strikeouts

Civale has only made five starts for the Guardians so far this year. He's only gone over this number once, but it was in his last start against the San Diego Padres when he struck out seven batters.

Civale has a great matchup here against Oakland at home. The Athletics' projected lineup tonight has a combined 24% strikeout percentage against right-handed pitching.

I suspect Civale will be more efficient than in his last start when he only went 3 2/3 innings, but still we just need him to put up the strikeouts for the same-game parlay.

Andres Gimenez 2+ Total Bases

Gimenez has one of the best matchups of any hitter for the Guardians. Ken Waldichuk is starting for Oakland and he has allowed a ridiculous .378 ISO to left-handed hitters this season despite being left-handed himself.

Gimenez also has reverse splits as he has a .182 ISO against left-handed pitching this season, and Cleveland's home ballpark is a great hitters' park for left-handed hitters.

We just need Gimenez to hit a double or two singles to cover this leg of the same-game parlay.

Guardians -1.5

I think the Guardians win this game decisively. They have a solid starting pitcher in Civale on the mound and it's a good matchup for him. Cleveland's lineup should be able to put up plenty of offense against Waldichuk. Cleveland also has the second-best bullpen ERA in the league at 3.02 while Oakland has the worst bullpen ERA in the league at 5.58.

It's baseball and anything can happen, but there's all the reason in the world to believe in the Guardians in this spot tonight.
