Atlanta Braves Betting Preview: Elder on a Hot Streak

Bryce Elder has looked a bit more like a major league-caliber starting pitcher since he's gained some stability in the Braves' rotation.

Whether the stability was by virtue of necessity or not is to be determined, but he's looked okay. He had a 6.29 ERA at the end of July. Since then, he's pitched to a 4.42 ERA, and his FIP in that same span is 3.38. He's also missing more bats than ever before and issuing far fewer walks.

You have to be a bit careful about buying into hot streaks this late into the season. So many rosters are barren, teams sold off parts, and they're giving more playing time to young guys, etc.

However, during his streak, Elder has faced the Mets, Phillies, and Cubs (twice). So, he's been going against some pretty good offenses.

Detroit Tigers Betting Preview: Concerns Over Morton's Struggles

Uncle Charlie just ain't it anymore. I'm sorry to say Morton turns 42 years old in two months. It's fair to wonder whether this will be the swan song of his 18-year career and if he'll even make Detroit's postseason roster after they brought him over from Baltimore at the trade deadline.

His primary struggles have been with his command. Manager A.J. Hinch has attempted to work around Morton's struggles with a pitching chaos plan that he rode to success with the Tigers last fall. That's why Morton's only been going three innings or so in his last few starts. He barely pitched into the fourth and not into the fifth at all over his previous three outings. I would imagine that's part of the plan.

I would also imagine that's one of the reasons the Tigers have Morton following Tarik Skubal in the rotation. They would presumably have a well-rested bullpen for his starts, given Skubal's usual dominance.

The Tigers only used Troy Melton and Tyler Holton behind Skubal yesterday, but given the team's general struggles of late, only Will Vest and Rafael Montero are really rested among their key relievers. They do have Chris Paddack. He threw on Wednesday, but only seven pitches, and it was his only appearance in the past week.

Braves vs Tigers Prediction, Betting Analysis

It's possible we see a piggyback situation tonight for the Tigers, where they go from Morton right into Paddack. That is beneficial for a tired bullpen, but a Morton-Paddack piggyback is not something I would be incredibly confident in against this Atlanta offense.

Given the pitching matchup, I don't really see why Atlanta is an underdog here tonight.

I'm on the Braves moneyline against the Tigers. I got them around +100. I would bet them -105 or better.

Pick: Braves ML +100 (bet365)
