Cubs vs Phillies Preview
The Cubs got blown out in the series opener, losing 13-7 against the Phillies. However, the Cubs showed some resilience with a late-game rally, cutting the deficit from 13-2 to 13-7 with five runs in the eighth inning. With that said, Chicago has now dropped three of their last four games.
Riley Martin will be serving as the opener for this game. The left-hander has been a groundball machine (62.5%), while pounding the strike zone, as he's yet to issue a walk in 3.1 innings. The Phillies have lefties Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper atop their lineup, so it's a smart strategy from the Cubs to use an opener.
Martin will be followed by Colin Rea, who looked sharp in his first start of the season, going five innings with one earned run on two hits, walking two, and striking out two. The veteran righty has also induced groundballs at a high rate (53.1%), which can help negate the Phillies' power in this one, unlike Javier Assad on Monday.
The Phillies will look to build off that offensive breakout on Monday, led by two home runs from Schwarber. They'll be sending out veteran righty Aaron Nola, who has been terrific in his last two outings.
During this stretch, Nola has combined to allow four earned runs on 10 hits with two walks and 12 strikeouts in 12.1 innings. In each start, he went at least six innings.
Nola's rock-solid start is supported by advanced metrics, as highlighted by a 3.02 SIERA and a 21.4% K-BB%. There's a reasonable chance that he can make it three quality starts in a row here, as a major key has been improved command. Nola has trimmed his walk rate from 6.9% to 5.7% so far.

Cubs vs Phillies Picks
With two groundball pitchers in Martin and Rea, we could see the Phillies' powerful offense be neutralized, at least in the early innings.
Add in the fact that Nola has an impressive 3.02 SIERA this season, and the under in the first five innings looks appealing. So we'll take a shot in this spot.
Pick: F5 Under 4.5 (+108)
