Guardians vs White Sox MLB Betting Preview
In a slate that features the likes of Chris Sale, Jacob deGrom, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Gerrit Cole, Guardians starter Gavin Williams tops them all in xFIP.
Williams has shown flashes of elite talent for seasons now, and he's flourished in a healthy 2026 campaign. One big reason why he's finally made the jump this season is his improvement in command.
Williams has cut his walk rate by over four percent from last season. Throwing more strikes has allowed his stuff to overpower hitters, and he's also upped his strikeout rate by nearly 8%.
His ability to work efficiently has allowed him the opportunity to work deeper into games. Williams has gone at least six innings in 13 of his 23 starts this season, but his shortest outing of the year came against the White Sox back on July 3.
He didn't make it out of the fifth in that outing, but today he's in line to avenge that stat line.
The White Sox have been a pleasant surprise this season, but they are not without their faults. Their lineup has plenty of pop, but with that comes a ton of whiffs. Chicago has the fourth-highest strikeout rate in the majors against right-handed pitching and the third-lowest contact rate as well.
Those tendencies are what will allow Williams to carve through the White Sox and deliver another quality start.
Pick: Gavin Williams Over 17.5 Outs Recorded (-115, bet365)
