“And there’s a drive into deep left field by Castellanos…”
As if there was any doubt. The meme is simply undefeated.
On the day Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race, Nick Castellanos did the dang thing, hitting a home run in his final at bat of the game.
Social media was ablaze shortly after the president announced he wasn’t running for reelection that Castellanos would go deep. After all, its been his motif since Thom Brennaman’s viral call in 2020 in which he interrupted an emotional on-air apology to call a Castellanos home run.
Consensus odds on a Castellanos home run sat at +550 heading into the Phillies game vs. the Pirates. You can only imagine what those odds would have been if Biden dropped out before first pitch.
After all, the timeline of Castellanos' moments during major events is uncanny. The most recent example came only a week ago when he hit a home run the same day as an assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump. It was also only a month ago he delivered a walk-off hit minutes after after MLB legend Willie Mays passed away.
Castellanos also has a knack for hitting homers during awkward moments.
There was the time he hit one while the Royals were eulogizing a 97-year old World War II hero.
There was the time he hit a bomb while the Phillies paid tribute to all the soldiers who died in combat on Memorial Day.
There was also the time he hit a dinger during the NLDS when the broadcast offered former Phillies manager their thoughts after suffering a stroke.
Oh, and to bring this whole thing full circle, word came down earlier this afternoon that Brennaman landed his first major job after his hot mic moment in 2020. He’ll be calling college football games for the CW this fall according to The Athletic.
