Brewers Betting Preview: Priester Needs a Priest

Right-hander Quinn Priester takes the mound for the Milwaukee Brewers in this matchup, and he should serve as a strong fade candidate. The former first-round draft pick has yet to find his footing in Major League Baseball.

He posted a 7.74 ERA during his 2023 rookie campaign and followed that up with a 4.71 ERA in last year’s sophomore effort. The lack of success has continued into 2025, as Priester carries a 5.08 ERA through six appearances.

His underlying metrics are equally poor. Entering this matchup, Priester ranks in the bottom half of the league in expected ERA (xERA), expected batting average (xBA), average exit velocity, strikeout rate and walk rate.

In his lone career outing against the Cleveland Guardians, Priester surrendered seven runs on seven hits in fewer than six innings of work. That game featured 11 total runs scored.

Guardians Betting Preview: Struggles for Allen

Meanwhile, the Guardians hand the ball to left-hander Logan Allen, who has also struggled since debuting in the same year as Priester.

Allen has posted a 1.40 WHIP or higher in each of his three MLB seasons. This year, he is 1-2 through seven starts with a 4.33 ERA and 1.67 WHIP.

Like Priester, Allen’s analytics suggest that positive regression is unlikely. The southpaw ranks in the bottom quarter of the league in xERA, strikeout rate, walk rate and barrel rate.

Following Allen is a bullpen that has also struggled in 2025. Cleveland’s relief staff ranks in the bottom half of the league in ERA.

Brewers vs Guardians Prediction, Betting Analysis

The good news for the Guardians' pitching staff is that it should receive plenty of run support. Through 14 plate appearances against Priester, the current Cleveland roster boasts a .417 batting average, .833 slugging percentage and .546 weighted on-base average (wOBA).

The Guardians also rank in the top half of the league this season in slugging percentage and home runs. On the other hand, there’s no denying Milwaukee’s recent struggles at the plate.

That said, the Brewers still rank in the top half of the league in runs scored per game and could find some success against Allen.

Pick: Over 9 (+105 | Play to -115)

Moneyline

I lean toward Cleveland, but don't trust Allen.

Run Line (Spread)

I also like Cleveland to cover, but I am staying away for the same reason listed above.

Over/Under

As mentioned, I'm betting Over 9.
