Today, we target a near-even-money NRFI between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Chicago White Sox at iconic Wrigley Field.
On the bump for the Cubs, we have the formidable southpaw, Justin Steele. Steele has demonstrated a stellar performance in NRFI, boasting an 8-3 record this season alone. Looking back at his record since 2022, Steele stands at an impressive 28-7 when taking on hitters the first time through the lineup.
His precision at the plate has resulted in a meager 20 hits from 90 at-bats, thus yielding a modest .217 batting average. Steele's relative unfamiliarity to the Rays' lineup could well be his trump card today. Notably, he has effectively navigated past the likes of Randy Arozarena (0-2), Harold Ramirez (0-1), Wander Franco (1-2) and Brandon Lowe (1-2) in previous encounters.
The Rays are countering with their recent acquisition, Zach Eflin. His track record mirrors Steele's with a solid 7-2 NRFI record this season. Eflin's strategic handling of batting order splits has significantly contributed to his NRFI success this year, allowing a remarkable four hits in 26 at-bats against team leadoff hitters, resulting in a .154 batting average.
Similar to Steele, Eflin has showcased resilience against the Cubs lineup, effectively confronting hitters like Trey Mancini (0-4), Ian Happ (0-3), Patrick Wisdom (1-3) and Nico Hoerner (1-2).
Wrigley Field, famed for its capricious winds, is expected to behave today. Predicted winds of a mere 10 mph, transitioning from right field to left, should offer a controlled environment for the NRFI.
