On Wednesday, we travel to the "Big Apple" to find value in a NRFI wager from the game pitting the Cincinnati Reds against the New York Yankees.

The Yankees will send out young ace Luis Severino. The standout enters holding an outstanding 2022 NRFI record of 13-2, with seven of those wins coming in the Bronx.

This makes him 41-13 to the NRFI since 2018. Severino's true potential comes when he's a home favorite, where he's an amazing 24-3 to the NRFI. Severino performs exceptionally well against teams leadoff hitters, holding them to a .159 average this season.

In his career, Severino is 1-0 to the NRFI against the Reds. This is how he has done in the matchups:

  • Tyler Naquin: 0 for 2
  • Brandon Durry: 0 for 2
  • Tommy Pham: 1 for 2

The Reds enter the game as the worst first-inning hitting team in baseball for the month. In 42 plate appearances, they're hitting for a lousy .103 average with a total of four hits. This has also led them to rank first in soft-contact rate at 39.1% and 1st in strikeout percentage (38.1) overall.

The Reds will counter with 34 year old veteran Mike Minor. He has spent most of his career on below-average teams, with the Athletics, Royals and Reds allowing him to fly under the NRFI radar.

Minor comes into this game with a 6-1 NRFI record, but is elite and Hall of Fame NRFI candidate. Since 2019, he's 32-7 to the NRFI. When facing batters the first time through the order, he's holding his opponents to a .190 average.

Here is how these New York hitters have done in the past against Minor:

  • DJ Lemahieu: 2 for 17
  • Aaron Judge: 0 for 3
  • Josh Donaldson: 0 for 9
  • Gleyber Torres: 0 for 5

It should be noted that Yankees power hitter Giancarlo Stanton is entering a slump, going just 4 for 21 this past week.

The Reds are on NRFI tear, going 10-0 to the NRFI In their last 10 games. And right behind them are the Yankees, who are 7-3 to the NRFI in their last 10 tilts.

That said, back Severino to continue his NRFI dominance as a home favorite and for Minor to strengthen his NRFI resume picking up win No. 33 on the season. Take the NRFI between the Reds and the Yankees.

As always, six outs to glory…
