It's the last Sunday slate of the regular season. While all good things must come to an end, it's only to make room for better things as the postseason is just days away. Speaking of the postseason, I've pinpointed two players who are right in the thick of the NL Wild Card chase.
However, I'm expecting contrasting results for them on Sunday. Let's find out who they are, and how we're betting them.
Our Action Labs Props Tool grades each prop on a scale from 1-10, and I’ll be sure to include the grade for each of my betting recommendations in my discussions below.
Rhys Hoskins Over 1.5 Total Bases +100
|Phillies vs. Nationals||Phillies -245|
|First Pitch||1:35 p.m. ET|
|Best Line: +100||DraftKings|
On the last Sunday of the season, the Phillies will get to face their old friend Patrick Corbin. They have crushed him historically as they are hitting .317 with a .563 slugging percentage as a team. However, one guy who has been right in the middle of all that damage is Rhys Hoskins.
Over the course of his career, Hoskins has hit .333 off Corbin, and eight of his 11 hits have either been doubles or homers. On top of the excellent batter-vs.-pitcher numbers, we can add in that Corbin is left-handed, and Hoskins has punished lefties this season.
For the season, he's hitting .296 with a .976 OPS off lefties. This is a smash spot for Hoskins, literally. He mashes lefties, and Corbin just happens to be one of his favorite lefties to hit off of. So take the value here as he'll likely rack up extra bases this afternoon.
Pick: Over 1.5 Total Bases
Action Labs Grade: 9
Blake Snell Under 7.5 Strikeouts -110
|White Sox vs. Padres||Padres -160|
|First Pitch||4:10 p.m. ET|
|Best Line: -110||DraftKings|
Snell has closed the season out strong. He had a dynamite month of September as he put up a 2.17 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP and 41 strikeouts over five starts. However, his last start of the regular season is tough one.
Despite their disappointing season, the White Sox have been excellent against left-handed pitching all season long. They have continuously put the ball in play against lefties as they have the sixth-lowest Strikeout Rate against Southpaws in the league.
On top of this matchup, this total is also a bit too high for Snell in general. Yes, he has been a strikeout artist of late and has double-digit upside anytime he steps on the mound, but the numbers say otherwise.
Snell has gone under this total in 66.7 percent of his starts this season, which give us implied odds of -200 that he will go under again. This is tremendous line value and the right side for this matchup.
Pick: Under 7.5 Strikeouts
Action Labs Grade: 8
