Collin Whitchurch's Payoff Pitch Best Bet
I typically bet on Twins starter Zebby Matthews in the strikeout market.
However, he’s still not a great Major League pitcher. He walks too many guys, allows too many fly balls, and gives up too many home runs.
I trust San Diego’s lineup to make Zebby pay. The Padres are a top-10 offense, posting a 118 wRC+ against right-handed pitching over the past month.
Meanwhile, Padres starter Nestor Cortes is typically undervalued in the betting markets. He’s not as bad a pitcher as he’s perceived. He recently threw six innings of one-hit ball against the Dodgers.
Minnesota’s lineup has waved the white flag on the season. Half the hitters have quit. The Twins are among the worst lineups in baseball against left-handed pitching, posting an 84 wRC+ against the side since the trade deadline.

Pick: Padres ML (-126, FanDuel)
Derek Carty's Payoff Pitch Top Player Prop
By Derek Carty
The Cubs typically keep Cade Horton on a short leash.
He averaged around 80 pitches per start in the Minors, and I think the coaches are attempting to moderate his workload deep into the season — he’s still a very young pitcher. Horton has tossed more than 75 pitches once in his past five starts.
The Rockies aren’t a great offense, but they’re better than the market gives them credit for. Additionally, the Coors Field effect should only hurt his production.
I don’t expect to see Horton in the sixth inning.
Pick: Cade Horton Under 15.5 Outs (-130, bet365)
