Mets vs Marlins Preview
The Mets just won a crucial series against the Cubs, but need to keep it going if they want to make the playoffs.
The Marlins are a good opponent to accomplish that. Miami lost the last two games to the Phillies while scoring just one run across both games.
New York will send Brandon Sproat to the mound, hoping to capitalize on this slumping Marlins lineup. Sproat has had quality starts in two of his three outings and will be facing the 21st-ranked offense in wRC+ this season.
Sandy Alcantara will get the ball for Miami. After a nice August (3.69 ERA), Alcantara has regressed in September with a 4.12 ERA in three outings.
Additionally, we have a Bet Labs system that recommends backing the Mets today in the first game of this series.
When the Marlins open a series against a team coming off a game in the Eastern or Central time zone, the market often underrates the visiting team due to the perception of minimal travel impact.
In reality, these teams enter Game 1 with their routines intact and without the challenges of cross-country adjustments, allowing them to perform at expected or elevated levels.
Because the Marlins are not typically priced as a top-tier opponent, this creates value in fading them in the series opener.
This system capitalizes on that edge by betting against the Marlins in Game 1 during the regular or postseason when their opponent's previous game was played in the Eastern or Central time zone, turning overlooked market assumptions into a profitable opportunity.
Pick: Mets ML -135 (bet365)
