Our first custom NRFI selection showcases Jesus Luzardo of the Miami Marlins. This season, Luzardo boasts an impressive 21–4 record on the NRFI, complemented by an 8–2 road NRFI split. With this, Luzardo's overall NRFI success since 2022 stands at an impressive 36–6.
When dealing with batters during their first encounter through the order, Luzardo has demonstrated his prowess, allowing only a .219 average across 210 at-bats. A highlight in Luzardo's matchups is his effective handling of Ha-Seong Kim, who has managed just one hit in five at-bats against him. Also to Luzardo's advantage, Juan Soto is in the midst of a slump, only achieving four hits in his last 23 at-bats for a .174 average.
Our second custom NRFI pick for the day features Diamondbacks Cy Young contender Zac Gallen. This season, Gallen has a superb 22–4 record on the NRFI, which includes an outstanding 11–1 home NRFI split. This accomplishment further bolsters Gallen's NRFI performance at home since 2022, bringing his tally to 24–3.
When facing batters the first time through the order, Gallen's efficiency shines, evident from his .208 average allowed across 221 at-bats. Previous encounters with the Rangers highlight Gallen's effectiveness against hitters such as Isiah Kiner-Falefa (1–6), Jonah Heim (0–5), Adolis Garcia (0–2) and Corey Seager (6–18).
Adding to Gallen's advantage, despite the Rangers' strong batting lineup, they exhibit a 78% NRFI rate on the road this season.
