Philadelphia Phillies Betting Preview: Great Bats Backing Up Nola

For several years, the Phillies have had starting pitching as a strength, usually led by Zack Wheeler and Nola.

This year, they've needed others to step up while Nola has had some early-season struggles. The 31-year-old enters this start with a 1-5 record, including a 4.61 ERA and a 4.24 xERA.

However, he may be turning the corner. In his last two outings against the Cubs and Diamondbacks, Nola has worked 13 innings, scattering seven hits, fanning 14 and allowing just one run.

The Cubs and Diamondbacks are among the top five in runs scored this season, and Nola will have to navigate another tough lineup against the Guardians. However, he'll have his own potent lineup backing him up.

The Phillies enter Friday's game after winning eight of their last 10 games. In that span, they've scored seven runs in eight of those games, and they're now tied for 10th in runs scored.

Trea Turner has seven multi-hit games in his last 10, raising his batting average from .245 to .310.

Kyle Schwarber has five home runs in his last 10 games and is now tied for the MLB lead in that department. He leads all Phillies with 1.5 WAR. Their usual WAR leader, Bryce Harper, has yet to fully get on track this season. When he does, this Phillies team has another level to reach.

Cleveland Guardians Betting Preview: Struggling Williams Needs Run Support

One Guardians hitter who'll be looking forward to stepping into the batter's box against Nola is Steven Kwan.

The left fielder is 3-for-3 with a solo home run against him. He enters tonight's game hitting .333 for the season and is tied for fourth in the MLB in batting average.

Kwan sets the table for the Guardians and usually allows for Jose Ramirez to do damage. Ramirez has been solid to begin this season, but he hasn't been up to his usual standards.

However, the Guardians have received contributions up and down the lineup, some even unexpected.

Kyle Manzardo leads the team with eight home runs and 21 runs batted in. Tied for second on the team is Daniel Schneemann, who has five home runs. Three of them have come in May, and he's also hitting .421 to begin the month.

Gabriel Arias has three multi-hit games in his past four games and five RBI in that span. Hitting .287 with a .791 OPS, the 25-year-old is currently on pace for a career year.

The Guardians return home after scoring 26 runs against the Nationals. Williams hopes he'll get some of that run support, and he may need it.

The former first-round pick is averaging over a strikeout per inning. However, he's struggled to limit traffic, with a 1.75 WHIP. He's issued 19 walks in 32 innings and has pitched beyond the fifth inning twice this season.

Phillies vs Guardians Prediction, Betting Analysis

Trea Turner and Kwan are two of the hottest hitters in the MLB.

Turner enters Friday's game on a seven-game hitting streak, while Kwan has hit safely in six in a row. Turner is 1-for-3 with a triple off Williams, and Nola has yet to get Kwan out. Both of them should get at least one hit.

Additionally, Williams issued two walks in each of his first six starts this season and eight of his last 10 starts, dating back to his last inning.

He walked five in four innings in his last start against the Blue Jays, who don't walk often. The Phillies are third in walk rate against right-handed pitchers this season, and Williams issued four walks in four innings in his lone career start against them.

This trio gets us a +150 price on DraftKings.
