Padres vs Royals Pick, Betting Analysis
Editor’s note: This article was transcribed from the latest episode of the Payoff Pitch Podcast.
I like the over 10, playable up to 10.5 at even money, between the Padres and Royals. At this point, I think the number has gotten about where it should be, so there's not a ton of value left. That's why I pushed it a bit lower on my priority list.
The wind is blowing out to left field in Kansas City today, which should help the offenses. Both of these lineups have been incredibly disappointing this season, and I've found it difficult to pull the trigger on overs involving either team because my projection has generally been higher than the market, especially in Royals games at Kauffman Stadium.
That said, I think both offenses are due for some positive regression. It's also encouraging to see the market move with my bet. My totals have historically performed much better when we're getting closing line value rather than seeing the number stay flat.
The biggest concern is the same one that comes with any Padres over. If San Diego gets out to an early lead, they can shorten the game with one of the best bullpens in baseball, and the scoring can dry up quickly in the late innings.
If you're playing the Padres over, I'd keep the pregame position relatively small and be ready to look for a live under if San Diego grabs a lead. You know Mason Miller is likely to give you a clean ninth inning, and Adrian Morejon and Jason Adam could easily put up zeros in the seventh and eighth as well.
So my pregame bet is over 10, playable up to 10.5 at even money, with the live under worth monitoring if the Padres take control early.
Pick: Under 10.5 (-125, FanDuel | +100 or Better)
