Mariners vs Astros Preview, Prediction, Betting Analysis
It's the game of the day, and it's the best pitching matchup you could possibly get out of this series: Hunter Brown against Bryan Woo. They will probably be the Game 1 starters for both of these teams in the playoffs.
So the bet I have here is the biggest player props edge on the board for this game, according to Action PRO Projections: Under 6.5 strikeouts for the Mariners' Bryan Woo.
I am fading him from that perspective. Woo has struck out 13 and nine batters, respectively, in his last two games. Really, really impressive stuff, but those games were against the Angels and Cardinals, both of whom strike out plenty.
Tonight, he faces an Astros team that is in the bottom 10 in K-Rate against right-handed pitching.
Woo has faced the Astros twice this year. In those two starts, he struck out six batters one time, and five the other time. So the line at 6.5 just seems too high.
I think that we're being a little too reactive to his last two outings. He's facing a team that's really tough to strike out, in a crucial game, and I wouldn't be surprised if both these managers treat this like a playoff game.
If the score is tight, whether it's tied or it's a one-run game, and Woo gives up a couple of hits, the Mariners could pull the trigger there, bringing in their bullpen, because these teams are tied atop the division.
The Astros and Mariners have three games this weekend. They need to manage this smartly. So, I wouldn't be surprised to see Woo get an early hook, even if he's doing well.
I don't have a great feel for this matchup on the moneylines or totals, but the one that I do like is fading Woo in the strikeout department.
Pick: Bryan Woo Under 6.5 Strikeouts (-145, bet365)
