Cardinals vs Cubs Betting Preview
The Cardinals were on the wrong end of an offensive outburst yesterday and did not have much to show in an 11-3 loss. As they aim to bounce back this afternoon, it will be difficult as the Cubs are going to vary their arms out of the bullpen.
As far as the first few innings go, the Cardinals are likely to be off to another slow start at the plate as they'll have to contend with two lefties, Drew Pomeranz and Jordan Wicks.
Pomeranz has been lights out this season as he's yet to allow a run in 26 appearances. Behind him is the freshly recalled Wicks, who flashed tremendous stuff his last time out.
Wicks should be the guy the Cards see for the majority of the middle innings, and that is trouble for them, as St. Louis has been slumping against lefties. They hold a wRC+ of just 90, which is nearly 12 percent lower than their season average.
Look for Craig Counsell to keep this St. Louis lineup off balance with the lefties in the early going before deploying a few hard-throwing right-handers in the latter half of the game.
The Cubs come into this matchup off a historic offensive day where they bashed a record eight home runs, five of which came from Michael Busch and Peter Crow-Armstrong.
What we need to determine for this matchup is whether or not they have any runs left for today.
Well, with strong winds blowing out again and a left-hander on the mound, we should expect them to score in bunches once more.
Chicago will face the young left-hander Matthew Liberatore, who's really come into his own this season. However, the Cubs are excellent against lefties, ranking eighth in wRC+ and sixth in ISO against them.
The key for the Cubs against Liberatore is discipline. Liberatore relies heavily on batters chasing outside the zone, but Chicago is unlikely to comply, as they are 10th in walk rate against lefties.
Look for the Cubs to stay hot at the dish.
Cardinals vs Cubs Prediction, Best Bet
The bullpen game has given us quite the discount on the Cubs this afternoon.
While Liberatore has been solid, he does not project for substantial success against the Cubs' lineup, especially with strong winds blowing out again.
Back the Cubs to keep the bats rolling while their bullpen contains the Cards this afternoon.
Pick: Cubs ML (-142, FanDuel)

Run Line (Spread)
The Cubs' run line is worth a look, especially with hitter-friendly conditions at Wrigley Field.
