Blue Jays Betting Preview: Great Matchup for Team's Bats

It's an understatement to say that the Jays' pitching staff is hurting, especially since Tuesday's starter was signed two days ago.

Urena isn't a great MLB player by any stretch, so the Jays' offense needs to come to life.

Urena has one appearance on the season for the New York Mets in which he oddly recorded a three-inning save after allowing five earned runs. Last season, he finished with a 3.80 ERA and 1.32 WHIP.

The only way Urena can be effective is if his sinker is working. Last season, he had a 51% ground-ball rate, and he must keep it there today, even against an Angels lineup without Mike Trout.

Urena doesn't generate enough swings and misses and allows hard contact. It's unknown how long he'll be on the mound, but I assume the Jays will happily take four or five innings of mediocrity.

Luckily for the Jays' offense, they have a tasty matchup against Anderson, who's been abused by these Toronto hitters (.354 average and five home runs in 79 plate appearances).

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will undoubtedly be someone I target in my player props. He's 6-for-11 against Anderson and feasts against left-handed pitching.

Regardless, the Jays have scuffled lately, but they should benefit significantly from this matchup. They also hit lefties better than righties, which is another surplus for the offense.

Toronto is a stay-away from a side perspective due to Urena's unknown performance in the early going, but I love this matchup for the Jays' offense.

Angels Betting Preview: Fade Tyler Anderson

The Angels are struggling, and with Mike Trout on the shelf, they'll need to find a resurgence quickly.

At least their offense gets a boost on Tuesday when they face Urena, though.

It's unclear how long Urena will last, but the offense should pounce on him early and often. The Angels aren't the best offensive unit, although they hit right-handers more effectively than southpaws.

My biggest concern is Anderson, who's overperformed thus far. He's not a terrible pitcher, but according to his 3.61 xERA, his 2.67 ERA should be almost 1.00 earned run points higher.

Anderson is generating whiffs, chases and weak contact from opposing hitters thus far, but his other numbers are concerning. For instance, he's not putting away hitters with strikeouts and is walking too many to sustain a low ERA.

Toronto also strikes out the third-fewest rate in the league and has destroyed Anderson in the past. I don't like his chances of pitching deep into Tuesday's game, and I expect him to be roughed up a bit.

The Angels' offense should break through against Urena. However, they can't be trusted, given Anderson's history against the Jays and his pending regression.

Blue Jays vs Angels Prediction, Betting Analysis

The Blue Jays team total over isn't only my best bet for the matchup, but they might be my favorite play on the entire slate.

I expect them to continue their success against Anderson, and this is an alternative betting approach without laying the moneyline.

With Urena pitching, I wouldn't be surprised to see him implode in the first inning, putting the Jays in a huge hole. Thus, I would much rather target their offense's matchup against Anderson.

It's only a matter of time before Anderson throws a clunker, and Tuesday is a great spot to fade him.

Pick: Blue Jays Team Total Over 4.5 (BetMGM)
