Blue Jays vs Brewers Preview
The Blue Jays blew a 1-0 lead they held all the way until the eighth inning, losing 2-1 in the second game of this interleague series against the Brewers on Tuesday.
Toronto continues to play sloppy baseball, as an error was a big reason why the Brewers had a two-run inning in the eighth.
They'll look to take the rubber match of this series with veteran lefty Patrick Corbin on the mound. In his Blue Jays' debut, he allowed four runs on six hits in four innings, with one walk and three strikeouts.
Home runs were a problem, as Corbin gave up one to Ryan Jeffers and another to Brooks Lee in the Blue Jays' comeback win over the Twins. However, this is a veteran innings-eater who had some decent moments last year, allowing three earned runs or fewer in his first 12 starts.
Facing an injury-depleted Brewers' lineup without Christian Yelich and Jackson Chourio, there's a chance that Corbin does better than expected in this outing.
Action PRO projects him for 3.7 strikeouts today.
The Brewers snapped their six-game losing streak with that comeback victory over the Blue Jays. They got 6.2 strong innings from Chad Patrick.
For the rubber match, they'll send out Brandon Sproat, who is an intriguing young pitcher who was one of the key pieces of the Freddy Peralta trade. However, Sproat has struggled mightily this season.
The young right-hander has 10 walks and 10 strikeouts in 10.1 innings this year. He's been getting absolutely crushed, including a 13.3% barrel rate (16th percentile) and 50.0% hard-hit rate (14th percentile).
There's a good chance that he needs more seasoning in the minors.
Given what we've seen from Sproat so far, combined with what Corbin did last year, we give the slight edge to the Blue Jays on the mound here.

Blue Jays vs Brewers Picks
I like getting the Blue Jays at plus money because of how much Sproat has struggled so far this year.
The percentage of money shows increasing support for Toronto heading into this afternoon's first pitch.
Then you have to consider that the Brewers' best reliever, Abner Uribe, won't be available for this game, since he has pitched in back-to-back outings.
Both Louie Varland and Jeff Hoffman are fresh for this game, as they had the night off on Wednesday.
To that end, the Jays have the edge with starting pitching as well as the bullpen here.
We'll take Toronto to win this rubber match.
