Toronto Blue Jays Betting Preview: Contact-First Lineup Ready to Test Gil

Coming into this series yesterday, tensions were high for Toronto as they held just a four-game lead and had to square off with a club hot on their tail on the road. The Blue Jays made a statement with a 7-1 victory, setting the tone for this series that the Yankees are not the only team that can slug in the Bronx.

This afternoon, they'll have a great opportunity to keep the bats hot as they face Luis Gil. The reigning AL Rookie of the Year has not been sharp through his first few starts of the season, as he comes in with a 4.81 xERA and 4.68 xFIP.

Gil relies heavily on generating whiffs as his stuff is excellent, but his command of it is not. However, the Blue Jays have the best contact lineup in the majors, regardless of whether the pitch is in the zone.

They are going to make Gil work by being disciplined early in counts, knowing that they will likely be in hitters' counts as they have the confidence to put the ball in play with authority in those spots.

New York Yankees Betting Preview: Hot Yankees Lineup Seeks to Even Series

As for the Yankees, getting held to one run at home last night was a bit of an anomaly, especially for how well they've been hitting over the last month. In the last four weeks, the Yankees are second in wRC+ against righties, three points ahead of the Blue Jays.

However, the Bronx Bombers have been living up to their nickname as they led the majors with a .211 ISO in that same span. Today, they face a veteran in Chris Bassitt, who has begun to show his age in the second half of the season.

In nine starts since the All-Star break, Bassitt has a 4.04 ERA, a 1.29 WHIP, and has allowed nine homers in 49 innings. With how hot the Yankees have been, Bassitt appears ripe for them to pick on in their hitter-friendly home park.

Look for New York to come out hot as they look to even up this crucial series.

Blue Jays vs Yankees Prediction, Betting Analysis

This is an afternoon matinee where neither starter can be trusted against two of the hottest lineups in baseball. Gil is due for regression as his command has been shaky at best.

Meanwhile, Bassitt does not profile for success in Yankee Stadium, as he does not strike out enough batters, nor does he generate groundballs at a high rate. Take the over as these two teams should trade haymakers with the AL East hanging in the balance.

Pick: Over 9.5 (-115, BetMGM)
