UNC Greensboro had a successful 6-2 January, but it had a really ugly home loss to Mercer last week. The Spartans followed that up with a close win against one of the worst teams in the entire nation in VMI.

From what we saw lately, I'm not entirely sure the Spartans in peak form to slow down a fire-powered offense on the road. UNCG's livelihood in this matchup will depend on this duo, so keep an eye on how they look pre-game and on the court.

You may remember this Furman team from the 2023 NCAA tournament. The Paladins are the squad who knocked off Virginia in the first round after taking advantage of Kihei Clark's errant pass. Although they don't have the entire team from 2023 back, they do have the man who hit the buzzer-beater 3.

JP Pegues is the leader and creator for this Furman team. He has the rare ability to create a shot from anywhere on the floor and get as hot as anyone. Just last game, Pegues hit a buzzer-beating 3 to send Furman into OT at The Citadel and ultimately avoid the upset.

There's all this noise about Pegues, but he's not even the leading scorer for Furman. Senior Marcus Foster averages just under 20 points to lead Furman this season. He's going to be a massive storyline in this game because he'll be asked to create a lot against this physical UNCG defense.

Furman shoots as many 3s as any team in the country and will surely be firing them today.

Both of these teams are coming off shaky recent performances, but I believe this meeting favors the home team.

Furman got itself in a hole against The Citadel last week and finally turned it on and won the game easily. I believe the Paladins had an eye on this game during their trip to The Citadel, and I don't blame them at all for that. This is a revenge game for Furman, as UNCG won the last meeting.
