Super Bowl 53 coverage dominated the weekend, and rightfully so, but Saturday's college basketball slate included one of the weirdest and downright ugliest games in recent memory.
In a game with closing total of of 152.5, Virginia Tech and NC State managed to score just 71 total points … for an entire game. The 81.5-point difference between the over/under and actual points scored is the largest such difference ever tracked via our Bet Labs software, which dates back to the start of the 2005 season.
Maybe it's because most bettors were laser-focused on the Super Bowl or maybe they just don't care, but The Action Network's public betting data is reporting that 71% of early tickets wagered on tonight's Louisville-Virginia Tech total are taking the over.
This over/under opened between 137 and 137.5 across the betting market and remains in that range at most sportsbooks, meaning the majority of action on the over has yet to motivate an adjustment.
At the time of writing, Louisville-Virginia is the most heavily bet college basketball game of the day, and if recreational bettors pivot from football to the hardwood, this total could get interesting.
