Against the Spread

Only four conferences (including independents) would have provided you with a positive ROI since 2005, though each would have provided a high-level return.

That includes the SEC, the Mountain West, independents and the Big East, which does not exist anymore.

Straight-Up Results

Using moneyline results gives us another look into conference performance. Here, you can see that the MAC has been a brutal conference to back, even more so than their dreadful ATS performance.

There is a more even distribution of positive and negative performance in terms of ROI when looking at results straight up rather than against the spread.

The Big 12 has been much better straight-up than against the spread, but is buoyed by a pair of huge upsets — Oklahoma (+613) over Alabama in the 2014 Sugar Bowl; Texas Tech (+644) over Arizona State that same year; and, Texas (+440) over an unmotivated Georgia team in 2019.

Much like the ATS numbers above, the Big Ten is returning slightly worse than neutral.
