Charlotte 49ers Betting Preview: Tough Task Ahead
Since moving up to the FBS level in 2015, Charlotte has struggled, posting just one winning season and a 38-90 record. 2026 started with another loss, 43-41 to The Citadel in triple overtime. The 49ers gained over 500 yards but allowed 268 yards on the ground and were -2 in turnover margin.
Quarterback Cole Gonzales was a three-year starter at Western Carolina before serving as a backup at Pitt last year. In his Charlotte debut, he threw for 322 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. His favorite target was sophomore Jaylen Hampton, who went for eight catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns. After just three receptions as a freshman, he may be in for a big year.
Running back Khamani Alexander went for 138 yards, which included a 66-yard touchdown. It marked the 13th time in program history that the 49ers have had a 100-yard rusher and receiver in the same game.
The offensive outburst was a welcome debut for a team projected to finish 137th in offensive SP+. Charlotte will have a tough task this week as it moves back into the FBS ranks to take on Ole Miss.
It will be the second consecutive season that Charlotte takes on a top-10 opponent, as it lost 35-3 at Georgia last season. Although it was still a blowout, Charlotte did secure a cover Between The Hedges. This week, it is more than a 40-point underdog in Oxford.
Ole Miss Rebels Betting Preview: Expect Deuce to Step Up
Pete Golding got the rare opportunity to make his head coaching debut during the College Football Playoff, and his team was a goal-line stand away from reaching the national championship.
On Sunday, he recorded his first regular-season victory as a head coach as his Rebels defeated Louisville 41-38 in Nashville. Being a defensive-minded coach, Golding probably will not be happy his team allowed 38 points and 469 total yards, but his star quarterback stepped up and saved the day.
After a slow start, Trinidad Chambliss finished 21/36 for 336 yards with three touchdown passes and one interception while adding 60 yards and another score on the ground. He nearly finished as the team's leading rusher as running back Kewan Lacy left the game twice and did not return in the second half.
Lacy finished with 61 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries after rushing for over 1,500 yards and 24 touchdowns last season. Per Coach Golding, Lacy did not return because of a leg injury. It doesn't appear serious, but this may be a week to rest him, with LSU on the docket next week.
Former Rebel De'Zhaun Stribling has the fantasy football community abuzz as he begins his rookie season with the Niners.
However, some believe Deuce Alexander was the best of the trio (along with Harrison Wallace) last year. He certainly made a case last week as he went for five catches for 159 yards and a pair of 62-yard touchdowns. After recording 684 receiving yards last year, the redshirt junior is poised for a big year.
Defensively, the Rebels will look to put a better performance on tape, which they should, as they will not have to deal with a Jeff Brohm offense this week.
They will look to get healthier as defensive end Kam Franklin and linebacker Keaton Thomas both left the game with injury while safety Shariff Denson did not play at all. All three could return this week, but Franklin's status may be the biggest priority. The former top 100 recruit had five sacks as a sophomore and may be primed for a huge junior season.
Thomas (Baylor) was part of Golding's No. 2 ranked transfer class, which also added linebackers Luke Ferrelli (Cal) and Tah'j Butler (Georgia Tech), defensive lineman Jahiem Oatis (Colorado), Blake Purchase (Oregon), and Michai Boireau (Florida), and safeties Joenel Aguero (Georgia) and Denson.
Along with senior holdover Suntarine Perkins, linebacker should be a strength for the Rebels this season.

In week 1, Charlotte's game had 84 points while Ole Miss' contest had 79 points. While you would expect the Rebels to get more stops this week, they should move the ball at will, particularly with a game under its belt.

Its quick-strike offense should help it rack up points, and I expect several explosives this week.
